Official Rules, December 2007

The Texas Challenge DanceSport Competition is conducted under the rules of the NDCA, which may be viewed at www.NDCA.org. In addition to NDCA requirements, the following rules shall apply:

  1. All Professionals/Teachers & all Amateur Couples competing in this event must be registered with NDCA.  To register, contact Eleanor Wiblin, P.O. Box 22018, Provo, UT, 84062; 8010422-8124 or FAX to 801-378-3734.  An NDCA-directed surcharge will be added if you register at the event.

  2. Student/Student dancers are Pro/Am Students who don't normally dance together and who have no plans to compete regularly as Amateurs; they have paired up for this event as a challenge to their dancing ability, to do something novel, to see if they might later enjoy competing as Amateurs, or for some other reason.

  3. The organizers reserve the right to cancel or merge any competition with fewer than 3 entries.

  4. The organizers have hired highly qualified adjudicators and officials; the Chairperson of Judges shall be the sole arbiter on decisions concerning ties, penalties, and other judges' decisions.

  5. The On-Deck system will be used for line up of competition heats. Competitors must check in with the On Deck Captain and be prepared to compete at least 30 minutes before the scheduled start-time for their heat.

  6. Competitors will be provided with "heat sheets" at registration and are responsible for verifying the correctness of entries, dances, and partners in advance of the time scheduled for heats to commence.

  7. Teachers will not be permitted to compete with one of their own students against another of their own students.

  8. Male Competitors are required to wear numbers; performers in Showcases, Solos, and Formations are exempt.

  9. Costumes are not allowed in Amateur Bronze or Silver levels.

  10.  All NDCA-approved syllabi are allowed for categories offered at this competition. Invigilators and the Chairperson of Judges will be aware of this fact when considering penalties.

  11. Floor drags, lifts and drops are not permitted in Pro/Am or Amateur closed categories.

  12. Competitors dancing in OPEN categories are not required to stay within the parameters of step lists. You may do whatever your talents and experience allow; however, material must be within the bounds of good taste.

  13. Lifts are not permitted in Pro/Am or Amateur Open Categories.

  14. Refunds due to cancellations before the deadline will be processed after the competition. A Doctor's certificate is required for refunds after deadline. Package and/or Entry cancellations and/or room reservations made after March 16, 2007, will not be eligible for a refund.

  15. There will be no credit given for cancellations made at the competition. Any changes made at the competition, due to no fault of the Organizer, will be assessed a $20 per change fee. PLEASE CHECK CONFIRMATION INFORMATION PRIOR TO COMING TO THE COMPETITION.
